AnaDent3D Viewer is software for 3D dental model analysis which allows users to open 3D model data as STL file which is suitable for CAD/CAM works and VRML file to be displayed through web browsers. The first version of AnaDent3D Viewer would focus on the measurements and 3D dental model analysis.

Registration Upper-Lower Casts



Create Dental Base

For proper dental model analysis, it is necessary to create dental base with smooth base to keep the maxilla and mandibular dental cast in place for storage. However, the creation of dental base for maxilla and mandibular dental cast is a time consuming process to cast the stone base in the mold and smooth the base surface with the risk of damaging the dental cast as well as the defective dental model with the wrong shape and incorrect base size according to the specifications.

Therefore, AnaDent3D Viewer needs to have a function to create a digital dental base for each set of digitized dental cast model. The digitized dental case would cover the area around the teeth and gum. The initial step would involve in the proper registration of the maxilla and mandibular dental cast. After finishing the registration process, the creation of dental base would be started. User can define the size of dental case, the height, and make a proper alignment of dental base to ensure that the registered dental cast pair is at the correct position and optimal occlusal contacts before connection dental cast with a dental base set. If the results are not satisfied, user can correct the dental base for dental model until it meets his/her specifications.



Overjet/Overbite/Occlusal Contact Checking

  • Occlusal Contact Checkings at Overjet/Overbite Direction

    Overjet/Overbite Occlusal Contact Checking is to check if the teeth alignment would result in the efficient chewing since the level of protrusion of the incisor along with the occlusal depth are preliminary indicators for the effective orthodontic treatments or otherwise. This type of information would be generally found by the measurements on lateral X-Ray images.

    On the other hand, the direct measurements of overjet and overbite from 3D model are hard to do so since the overbite has to be measured from the upper incisor to the lower incisor while the overjet is the measurement on the horizontal distance. Therefore, orthodontists generally measure overjet and overbite from lateral radiographic image even though the lateral cephalogram is a projection of 3D object which has single view – limiting the ability to measure overjet and overbite in different angles from the actual points of interests for such measurements. Furthermore, AnaDent3D has a function to measure overjet and overbite of digital dental model called as Overjet/Overbite Checking.
  • Occlusal Contact Checking

    The occlusal contact checking is a part of dental treatment routine including filling, putting the denture and so on. This has been done by telling the patients to bite the copy paper and make a slight chewing to allow the dye on paper to stick on the teeth as the way to allow dentists to make an assessment on the conditions of occlusal contacts for optimal dental treatments. Orthodontists also need to make occlusal contact checking as a part of orthodontic treatment to check if the occlusal contract has been corrected after finish each step of orthodontic treatments to optimize the chewing efficiency to reduce the chance for the occurrences of tooth decay and gum disease due to the difficulty for brushing the teeth along with damaged teeth during the orthodontic treatment process. This will ensure better characteristics after finishing the orthodontic treatments.

    However, the orthodontic planning on 3D digital model require the segmentation of individual teeth and teeth realignments to simulate the orthodontic movements and then the occlusal contact checking is in deed to prevent the problem on chewing after the treatments.

    AnaDent3D Viewer has a function to make an assessment on the occlusal contacts on the 3D digital dental case model by putting the color on the contact areas on both maxilla and mandibular teeth just like the application of copy paper to detect the occlusal contacts and the color on the contact areas have been changed according to the levels of force applied on the contact areas.
